Cam Whores, Cock Block & things you should know before a CPA Manager calls to Interview you

shield

I got a call from one of the CPA Network to see if I would qualify and be a fit affiliate agent to join their CPA Network.  Joining a CPA is quite different than joining a regular affiliate program that I had before or a simple joint venture with someone.

The CPA rep asked me a few questions that I should jot down to remember for my next interview to join a CPA network and also it would be a good note to help other people trying to get in a CPA network for the first time as well.

I know being ignorant is never an excuse to do something and it’s the same as learning about the CPA network.  I only heard about the term CPA not more than 7 days ago before The Arbitrage Conspiracy launch and entered the scene.

“How long have you been doing Internet Marketing for?” I told him that I started learning about internet marketing since February of 2008 and I actually promoted the first time with Stomping the Search Engine 2.0 in  September of 2008.  It wasn’t a CPA promotion, but one of those internet product launches we usually hear about from the gurus.  There was buzz about this product and the StomperNet guys have always taught me well and they always pump out premium products.  At the time I just finish going through John Reese’s Traffic Secrets 2.0.

“Will you be advertising through Twitter?”

“Do you know what cam spam is?” I didn’t know what the term cam spam was.

“I’m sorry, but we can’t go through with the process at this time.”

Awe, I didn’t know that this person on the phone was interviewing me.  I had my dreams of making it from the sea shores to the ocean and playing with the big sharks.  I had been cut and this is what I call “Cock Blocking”.  What were you expecting?  You guys have a dirtier mind than I do.  I knew something like this would happen, but I went ahead and applied anyways without knowing what to expect.  It’s always more fun that way. I like venturing to the unknown.  Sometimes…  When I got off the phone I was very disappointed that I didn’t get accepted into this CPA network.  I thought about what cam spam meant and thought maybe it meant some sort of campaign spamming.  Nope – wrong again.  So I went to my trusty Google friend and this is what I didn’t know.

1. cam spam

A type of comment spam that frequently appears on youtube and other video sites, posted by cam whores as a means of self-promotion.
1. There are no legitimate comments on this video anymore, its all full of cam spam

2. SeXyBrTTNY69 — Oohhh nice video, I feel naughty, check out my profile

Someone made a comment below and said that the CPA Manager asked about can-spam and not cam spam.  They kind of sound the same don’t they?  Wow, know wonder a lot of people are having trouble getting into the CPA net work. When you want join a group or fraternity, you have to be able to speak their lingo.

I’ll be ready next time with a better surf board and extra protection so I don’t get cut and bleed to the sharks.

P.S.

There is more that needs to be said on this post.

  1. Its actually spelled CAN-SPAM

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPAM

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (15 U.S.C. 7701, et seq., Public Law No. 108-187, was S.877 of the 108th United States Congress), signed into law by President George W. Bush on December 16, 2003, establishes the United States’ first national standards for the sending of commercial e-mail and requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to enforce its provisions. The acronym CAN-SPAM derives from the bill’s full name: Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003. This is also a play on the usual term for unsolicited email of this type, spam. The bill was sponsored in Congress by Senators Conrad Burns and Ron Wyden.

The law required the FTC to report back to Congress within 24 months of the effectiveness of the act.[1] No changes were recommended. It also requires the FTC to promulgate rules to shield consumers from unwanted mobile phone spam. On December 20, 2005 a detailed report to congress on the effectiveness of the act indicated that the volume of spam has begun to level off, and due to enhanced anti-spam technologies, less is reaching consumer inboxes. A significant decrease in sexually-explicit e-mail was also reported.[2] However, this progress is most likely attributed to improved technologies, not to the law.[citation needed]

The CAN-SPAM Act is commonly referred to by anti-spam activists as the YOU-CAN-SPAM Act because the bill does not require e-mailers to get permission before they send marketing messages.[3] It also prevents states from enacting stronger anti-spam protections, and prohibits individuals who receive spam from suing spammers. The Act has been largely unenforced,[4] despite a letter to the FTC from Senator Burns, who noted that “Enforcement is key regarding the CAN-SPAM legislation.” In 2004 less than 1% of spam complied with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.[5]

16 C.F.R. part 316, “Definitions and Implementation Under the CAN-SPAM Act; Final Rule” goes into effect July 7, 2008 and changes the original CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 by (1) Adding a definition of the term “person”; (2) Modifying the term “sender”; (3) Clarifying that a sender may comply with section 7704(a)(5)(A)(iii) by including a post office box or private mailbox and (4) Clarifying that to submit a valid opt-out request, a recipient cannot be required to pay a fee, provide information other than his or her email address and opt-out preferences, or take any other steps other than sending a reply email message or visiting a single page on an Internet website.

  4. Thank you for a very clear and helpful post. I am definitely a violator of many of these rules. I often find myself conflicted when writing a blog post because I see myself writing more than people want to read, but I feel that I have to do the subject matter justice by thoroughly covering it. I feel that by following some of these rules I end up cutting out important aspects to the discussion. I guess you have to find a balance.
